THE CONFREENCE:
It is planned to attract maximum number of sociologists and social scientists from SAARC Nations and developed world. This would probably be the biggest congregation of sociologists from all over the world in India after 1986 World Congress at Delhi.

THE JAIPUR CITY:
Jaipur, the pink city, is fast emerging as a new mini metro of the country. It is well knows for its cosmopolitan culture, communal harmony, political stability and very good law and order situation unlike many other cities. It is one of the few clean and aesthetically well kept cities in India. No wonder, millions of foreign and Indian tourists throng the city every year making it one of the most coveted point of the golden triangle of Delhi-Jaipur-Agra tourist circuit.

This city is one of the few traditionally planned cities of India. Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh founded Jaipur on 18th November 1727. It is the only planned town by Indians in northern India. At first British addressed it as 'Jainagar','Jyenagur',but later on they settled for 'Jeypore' as its name. The post-independent India has standardised its spelling as 'Jaipur'. Nevertheless, the old romantic charm of Jaipur is manifested by marketing of a famous French Perfume by a western cosmetic company in its old spelling, Jeypore.

The British resident wrote in his 1869-70 report on Jaipur administration in following words:"Jeypore is as it were a sort of Lombard Street of Rajpootana".

The city has been planned in accordance with tenets and principals of Vaastu Shastra. The city planning follows the 'Manasara' concept of large blocks for the upper castes and smaller blocks for the lower castes. On Jaipur, Mulk Raj Anand writes that the, "the east-west axis of the length of the rectangle was divided by four main roads, running north-south.The width was bifurcated into two by a main road, which ran east-west. The crossings of main roads and the north-south were made into open squares. The main streets ended in the eight gateways of the surrounding city wall." The traditional city was planned with provision of running arcades with the shops to provide shade for the shoppers and the pedestrians, for the wide streets were exposed to bright sunrays all day long. The narrower streets of city are planned in such a manner that the buildings provided shade and cooled the air. The traditional city planning of the city was not just limited to spatial or architectural dimensions rather it also involved social demographical planning. The city planners had placed various caste-based professions in different residential blocks.

The city was given its famous pink hue by the scholar king of Jaipur, Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh towards the end of the nineteenth century. He was also responsible for metalling of city roads.

Apart from town planning and architectural uniqueness, the city stands out in cultural realm also. The erstwhile rulers invited best scholars, astronomers, artisans and musicians from various parts of India, gave them estates liberally and encouraged them to pursue their creative-aesthetic pursuits and passions. Thus, very soon, Jaipur made a name for its glorious traditions and masters of various areas of excellence such as arts, literature, music, dance and handicrafts. The first recognised modern Hindi story, titled as 'Usne Kaha Tha',was written by Pandit Chandra Dhar Sharma 'Guleri', a Jaipur resident astronomer-cum-scholar. Jaipur school of 'Dhrupad' and Classical 'Kathak'dance is known all over the world. The world-renowned maestro, the Grammy Award winner, Pt.Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Dhrupad experts, Dagar brothers are some of the eminent citizens of Jaipur. Jaipur city is now known for its calico fabric printing (Sanganeri Print), tie-and-dye print ('Bandhej' and 'Lahariya'prints), marble statue making and hand made paper.

The 'Jaipur Foot' has helped thousands of handicapped persons walk across the globe. The main professional behind it, Dr. P.K. Sethi, brought Ramon Magsaysay Award to the city.
